Yes! Finally I made it to the World Economic Forum, Where good minds meet, smart solutions take root and yes "I will take part in this global conversation". King Abdullah opened the forum at the lowest point on earth saying: "It is a vital time for this special meeting on economic growth and job creation in the Arab World. As our region stands today at the gates to the future. First is the Gate of Dignity, Second is the Gate of Opportunity, third is the Gate of Democracy, and the fourth gate is the Gate of Peace and Justice".
The four gates are not alternatives. But the question is how we should pass through them! How we can stop running around in circles. How to find the path that will take us to a better future and give us a better life. There is no time to keep going to "Anywhere". **Here's a young woman who is not a CEO, who does not have a master degree in business and politics from Harvard. She is a change maker, who has a message to deliver that our generation should choose his own keys to pass through those four gates to their own rainbows. For the gate of dignity: my key will be "I refuse"! I refuse to be a puppet. I refuse to "represent" the youth only from the out side while without being aware speaking the politicians' minds that really care for the power.I refuse to "shape" the new future on the panel and coming back home as an "inactive" citizen. I refuse to count the blessings because our situation is better than the worst. I refuse to maximize the "slight" improvement because "anything is better than this" .And for that I refuse to use "at least" no "at least" any more… For the gate of opportunity: my key will be "redefine" "Urgently, the region needs to create 85 million jobs soon". Urgently means: Compelling immediate action or attention. Soon means: In the near future. There is no time to keep "talking the talk", now it’s the time to "walk the walk". We need to focus on industry, research and development. We need to support the private sectors to take the necessary brave steps to create more jobs and more value to the economy. We need to work with the stakeholders (decision makers, civil society, academic groups) to have a deep understanding and analysis of where we are now, and when we want to go! We've got enough from the scene of hungry kids, useless mothers and desperate fathers. Redefine "الحياة الكريمة" For the gate of democracy: my key will be "Change the approach" The first step in making the democracy a way of life is to change the approach. We "were" passive, we "were" apathetic but now we "are" the ones who either bring a better future or making the scene worst. As a young woman knowing that we represent the majority of our society I am asking to have a holistic plan that ensure programs directed to youth and women are planned pro-active and in democratic way where youth/women voices are heard and at the same time no program is planned or executed without talking to us first to understand our needs and potential. (Participatory approach).
And at the same time I want a safe environment to express myself, to speak my mind, to discuss the situation quo honestly loudly and "truly". The scene of the "black room" should not exist anymore! And for the gate of peace and justice: my key will be "update your dictionary" "Spring" term with our new understanding should be included in the Palestinians' dictionary; we've got enough of blood, loss and tears. And for that we should stop sharing the blame, stop trying to shut this gate without a clear solution, enough of failing our kids, enough of frustrating our youth. The situation there it's not normal and need an urgent strategy. It’s the time to the sun of freedom to rise in this land after being under the longest occupation in the modern era it’s the time to smell the taste of "freedom and justice". Nelson Mandela had set a rule, 5o years ago:" we South Africans cannot feel free until the Palestinians are free. Spring should visit Palestine this time... The world economic forum experience to me as a change maker was a point where things started, not only an event where things finished, and I know I will never be the same and I know I am in this for good and I will continue to encourage myself to believe and dream in a world of peace, prosper, and harmony. And for that I am asking you: I am committed to improve the state of the world, who's really in? |
